Dan Gauthier Snags First Title at Non-Champs
At Wonder Bowl on February 10, 2008 in New Bedford, MA: Dan Gauthier ensured his first win with a convincing 246-159 win over Jon Corda in the championship match at the first non-champions tournament of the year. Dan took home $1,600 plus a $100 Tournament of Champions entry while Jon won $960 for second.

First Win for Copping
At AMF Silver Lanes on January 20, 2008 in East Hartford, CT: Past NEBA rookie of the year Eric Copping defeated RJ Broege 237-170 to win his first NEBA title. Eric won $1,800 along with a $100 entry into the Tournament of Champions. RJ Broege took home $1,000.

Boghosian Gets Title Nine with Point Leader Win
At AMF Auburn Lanes in Auburn, MA on January 13, 2008: Brian Boghosian won his ninth career title at the Point Leader Invitational. This is his first NEBA win since the 2004 Point Leader Invitational. In Auburn, Brian B qualified ninth with 1013 then moved up to third with 653 in the 3-game semi-finals. In the 6-man round robin finals, he won his first four matches with 196, 167, 198 and 199 then lost with 184. This placed him third on the grueling conditions, only 19 pins out of first. He shot the high game of the finals, 246, to easily claim the 2008 title. Brian won $2,400 plus a $100 entry into the Tournament of Champions. Runner-up Mike Lichstein won $1,350.

Chris Rebstock Grabs Second T of C Title
At AMF Town & Country in Shrewsbury, MA on December 16, 2007: Chris Rebstock defeated Chris Sole 504-463 in the final 2-game match (including a 300 in game 1) to capture his second Tournametn of Champions title. His other TofC victory was in 1998. This is the 40 year-old's 14th career win. He won $950 plus a $100 entry next year to defend his title. 36 bowlers braved the bad weather to compete in the 15th Tournament of Champions

William Tessier Moves Onto Tournament of Champions
At AMF Town & Country in Shrewsbury, MA on December 15, 2007: William Tessier defeated Todd Lathrop 221-196 in the championship match at the non-champions tournament to win $1,275 and a $100 paid entry into the Tournament of Champions on Sunday. Todd, the tournament high qualifier, took home $750 for his runner-up finish

Mark Roth Becomes NEBA's Newest Champion
At Westgate Lanes in Brockton, MA on December 2, 2007: In a surprise appearance, 34-time PBA champion Mark Roth competed in his first NEBA tournament. After shooting 1066 on the Saturday squad, he earned a guaranteed spot off the last squad with 1158. Mark defeated Steve Wagoner 226-191 in the championship match to win the $3,000 top prize plus a paid entry into the Tournament of Champions. Steve, who was looking for his first title, won $1,700 for his runner-up finish. Thanks to Harry's Pub & Grill in Westgate Lanes and Liquid Advertising for adding $3,500 to the weekend's event. Also to Joe and Tom from Ebonite for the demo day and support throughout the year.

December 1, 2007 at Westgate Lanes: Eric Copping leads the field in Brockton by a ton with his incredible 222, 221, 276, 300 followed by another 300 for 1319. In second is last month's champion Stephen Dale Jr. with 1159. The squad cuts were 1114 and 1124. After two squads, 8th on the at-large list is 1101 and 15th is 1068.

Stephen Dale Jr. Conquers Cranston
At AMF Lang's Lanes on November 11, 2007 in Cranston, RI: Stephen Dale Jr. won his seventh title with a 268-227 victory over Chris Hall in Cranston, RI. Steve averaged 242 in match play and won by at least 20 pins each round. His last win was in December 2004. Chris did his share of striking also shooting 826 his first three games of matches but shot his lowest game in the final match. Steve won $1350 plus a $100 entry into next months Tournament of Champions while Chris received $825 for his runner-up finish.

At Nutmeg Bowl on October 28, 2007: In his first trip to New England for NEBA, Joe Kearney from Midland Park, NJ added his name to the champion's list. Joe defeated New Yorker Justin Warhol 214-187 in the final match to win $1,100 plus a $100 entry into the Tournament of Champions.

Becky Kregling & Chris Rebstock Capture Doubles
At East Providence Lanes on October 7th, 2007: Becky Kregling & Chris Rebstock won the doubles title with a 505-447 victory over Tom Hansen & Chris Hall in a two game baker style championship match (259-247 and 247-200). The winning duo split $1600 plus each received a $100 paid entry 2007 Tournament of Champions. This was Becky's first win and the thirteenth for Stoke. The only other female NEBA champion is Jennifer Swanson who won in July 1996.

Win #26 for Lichstein in Hamden
At AMF Hamden Lanes on September 23, 2007: Mike Lichstein defeated Scott Santos 222-183 in the championship match to grab his 26th title. Litch, already the winningest bowler in NEBA history, has won 25 singles tournament and 1 doubles since he started competing in 1986. He won twice as an 18 year old. Litch averaged 222.0 on the sport compliant shot to take home $1,200. Scott won $650 while averaging 203.6 for the weekend. This was Scott's first loss in the championship match after winning seven titles.

Johnson, Broege & Webb Claim Team Title
At Westgate Lanes in Brockton, MA on September 9, 2007: The team of Jay Johnson, RJ Broege and Bill Webb won the second annual trios tournament with a convincing 701-608 victory over Jim Rusin, Mike Cordeiro and Alex Aguiar. They split $1,500 and each received a $100 entry into the Tournament of Champions in December. This is Jay's first title, the second for RJ and Bill's 11th win.

Widmer Takes Little Time to Win Second Title
At Bowl-O-Rama in Newington, CT on August 19, 2007: Last month Scott Widmer celebrated his first NEBA win at the doubles. This month, he added a singles title to his resume. En route to the championship match, he defeated 25-time champ Mike Lichstein 269-215 in the round of 8 and champion Chris Viale 198-172 in the semi-finals. Scott controlled the final match from start to finish ending with a 248-166 victory over Cliff Wheelock. Scott won $1,325 for his victory while Clff took home $800 which was his highest career day in bowling.

Russ Michaud Victorious in Auburn
At AMF Auburn Lanes in Auburn, MA on July 29, 2007: Russ Michaud defeated RJ Broege 266-231 to win his ninth title. The recently turned senior bowler started with the front nine to give himself the victory. Russ won $1,400 plus an entry into the Tournament of Champions in December while RJ took home $800.

Scott Widmer & Mike Lichstein Take Home Doubles Win
On July 14-15 2007 at AMF Cranston Lanes in Cranston, RI: Scott Widmer & Mike Lichstein defeated the duo of Angel Hernandez & DJ Jones 417-371 in the final match to take home the doubles championship trophy and $2,200. It was Scott's first win and Litch's added his first doubles title to bring his overall wins to twenty-five.

Jeff Voght Brings Title #2 Back Home to NY
On June 23-24, 2007 at AMF Chicopee Lanes in Chicopee, MA: Jeff Voght made the trek to AMF Chicopee Lanes for the singles tournament on 6/23-24 and left the building holding his 2nd NEBA title with a 267-226 win over 6 time NEBA champion Chris Sole. The smooth right-hander from his small hometown of Canajoharie, NY quietly made his way through the field to reach the final match against the always consistent Sole, a talented left-hander from Feeding Hills, MA. Sole started his game with a double and was deadly accurate in converting a 4-10 split in the 3rd frame, but it was in that frame that Voght found his strike line and never let up, taking with him back to NY the title and the top prize of $1,650 plus the year-end TofC entry. Sole's efforts netted him the second place purse of $975.

Entry Fee Raised $5 to $80
The entry fee has been raised $5 to $80. Non-members will pay $95. This excludes special tournaments such as the Tournament of Champions, Point Leader Invitational and Masters. The entry fee has been raised $25 to $100 in the Tournament of Champions. This will enable NEBA to keep the prizefunds similar to the last seven years while Cambridge Credit Counseling and TNTPokerRoom.net were adding $500-$1500 to each tournament. All those who qualify for match play will win a minimum of double the entry fee ($160) in non-special tournaments.

Jim Rusin Wins First Title
On May 19-20, 2007 at AMF Holiday Lanes in Somerset, MA: Jim Rusin won his first title after defeating eight-time champion Russ Michaud 216-213 in the final match at AMF Holiday Lanes. After Russ threw a split in the tenth, Jim converted a spare to win $1,625 and a paid entry into the Tournament of Champions while Russ took home $950.

Liquid Advertising is giving $500 into the prize fund at the tournament at AMF Holiday Lanes in Somerset, MA on May 19-20. With another $250 added by NEBA, that is $750 ADDED TO PRIZE FUND.

Tony Gee's NEBA's Newest Champion
On April 22, 2007 at Laurel Lanes in Plainville, CT: Two non-champions fought for their first title but it was Tony Gee who took home his the title with a 243-200 over John Rusin. Tony made it to match play with an 1117 block on the last qualifying squad. He led the championship match from frame one starting with six strikes. Tony won $1,400 as well as a paid entry in the Tournament of Champions while John Rusin won $800.

Steve Blanchet Makes Masters Third Title
On April 1, 2007 at AMF Auburn Lanes in Auburn, MA: Steve Blanchet chose the undefeated route in the masters winner's bracket to take home his third title. Steve qualified third in the 8-man double elimination bracket with 2247 for 10 games - 1176 for third highest block on the morning's 46 foot pattern and 1071 for the fifth highest block on the 38 foot pattern. He averaged 225 in match play on the sport compliant pattern against Chris Rebstock 226-201, Chris Carlson 196-187 and tournament high qualifier Bill Webb 231-225 to go up against the survivor of the loser's bracket Chris Carlson. Steve defeated Chris 248-209 for his third title and $1,350.

Joe Sprague Wins for the Second Time
On March 25 at AMF Circle Lanes in East Haven, CT: Joe Sprague took home his second title after a 233-211 victory over 7-time champion Russ Michaud. After being down 22 pins halfway through the match, the righty threw six strikes to force Russ to throw the first strike in the tenth. Joe won $2,350 for his win along with a paid entry into the Tournament of Champions. Russ received $1,325 for his runner-up finish Bill Webb and Jesse Cote were third and fourth. Jim Rusin, John Kirker, Geoff Wetzler and Steve Blanchet rounded out the top 8 in the 300+ entry tournament.

Derek Pontes Grabs Second Title
On February 25 at At East Providence Lanes in East Providence, RI: DEREK PONTES from Westport, MA won his second title after solidly defeating fellow champion Chris Hall 248-199 in the championship match at East Providence Lanes. Derek joined NEBA in 1997 at 19 years old. After a couple years of competition, he started making cuts on a regular basis with his best being 13 out of 15 in 2003 for a seventh place finish in points. His first win was in June of 2005 at Auburn Lanes. In East Providence, Derek shot 970 on the Sunday morning squad then 1113 on a afternoon squad reentry. After starting that squad with games of 214,181 and 205, he finished huge with 248 and 268 to make the squad cut by three pins using his old Brunswick Sapphire Zone. In match play, he switched to his Ebonite Savage Flip then plowed through a field of champions - Chris Monroy 258-212, Tom McCarrick 237-197, Chris Forry 242-204, Steve Blanchet 259-225 and 5-time Bowler of the Year Bill Webb 236-228. The 29 year-old lefty led the championship match from start to finish. He won $2,500 along with a paid spot in this year’s Tournament of Champions.

Clem Amaral Joins the NEBA Champion's List
Clem Amaral, of New Bedford, MA, has bowled his last Non- Champion's tournament, having emerged as NEBA's newest champion at the Non-Champion's event held at Wonder Bowl on Feb. 10th & 11th. with a 225-211 victory over Jim Yost of Bridgewater, MA. Clem,41, squeaked into the finals with his at-large score of 1116,and then proceeded to fight through match play to reach the title match. The 50 year-old Yost was seeded 5th into the finals, rolling an impressive 1223 set on the Sat. night squad and receiving a one round bye. Both bowlers were on the mark, staying even halfway through the final game, but a miscue on a 7 pin by Jim in the 5th frame was the opening Clem needed, who stayed clean through the entire game and secured the victory and the $1,630 cash prize plus the paid entry into his FIRST Tournament of Champions! Jim had a great weekend of bowling, and was rewarded with the $920 runner-up purse.

This was Dave's eleventh title and third championship match appearance in-a-row. Dave won $2,350 for first and Jason $1,300.

Dave Forcier Joins Elite List with 10th Win
On January 7, 2007 t Striker's East Lanes in Raymond, NH: Dave Forcier won his tenth title at the Point Leader Invitational. After qualifying third for the special tournament's 6-person round robin match play finals, he held the lead going into the final position round. He was three pins ahead of second and just fourteen in front of third and fourth. Dave locked up the win by striking out in the ninth and tenth for 279 against NEBA's best Mike Lichstein who finished with 269. Dave won $2,400 and Mike $1,350.

Bill Webb is the first to win Bowler of the Year SIX times (1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2005 & 2006). Prior to this year's honor, he was tied with Mike Lichstein who is the most winningest bowler in NEBA history with 24 titles.

Calca Makes It 2 In-a-Row at Tournament of Champions
On December 17, 2006 at AMF Town & Country Lanes in Shrewsbury, MA: This weekend, Frankie Calca added his name to the NEBA record books. Not only did he win his first title at the non-champions but he was also the winner of the Tournament of Champions. He is only the second bowler to accomplish this feat. The other was Steve Blanchet in 2001. The 23 year old defeated 8-time champion Brian Boghosian 457-419 in the semi-finals then 7-time champ Dave Forcier 432-417 in the championship match to win his second title in two days. Frankie earned $1,250 along with a paid entry into next year's T of C to defend his title while Dave took home $725.

Brendan Bierch Takes Home Big Win
On December 2-3, 2006 at Westgate Lanes in Brockton, MA: Brendan Bierch won his first title with a 191-184 championship match victory over local favorite Bill Major. As the only non-champion in the top 16, Brendan defeated many top- notch players en route to the final match. After waiting 18 years for his first title, the right-hander took home $3,000 and earned a paid spot into the Tournament of Champions on December 17. A special thanks to Westgate Lanes and Harry's Pub & Grill for making the weekend a major event for our association. First place was $3,000, second $1,650 and $185 for the last cash spot. Westgate Lanes has committed to another big tournament next year. Harry's Pub & Grill will be adding $2,500 to the tournament on December 1-2, 2007.

At AMF Silver Lanes in East Hartford, CT on January 8, 2006: After 15 games and hours of bowling, the outcome of the Point Leaders' Invitational came down to the final frame. Going into the position round, Bill Green and Tom Durand were 120+ pins ahead of third place so the winner of their match, took home the title. Tom's 188 game bettered Bill's 179 so it was Tom who won the $3,000 first place prize. Tom earned his first title against an elite field of 48 of New England's best. He averaged 214 for the day and won 140 bonus pins for his 7-1 record in match play.
