Better Bowling Concepts Open Singles Presented by Ideal Bowling Concepts
Bowlero Cranston – Cranston, RI
June 14, 2026
Event #1064
124 Entries | 32 Match Play Finalists
Pattern: 2025 PBA Ballard (36', 29.805 mL, 1.93:1 L / 1.48:1 R)
The New England Bowlers Association returned to Bowlero Cranston for Event #1064, the Better Bowling Concepts Open Singles Presented by Ideal Bowling Concepts.
A total of 124 entries took to the lanes competing for a share of the prize fund while also battling for valuable Vincent Hall Memorial Cup Series positioning. This event served as the eighth and final qualifying event of the 2026 Vincent Hall Memorial Cup Series. Official qualifiers for the series will be announced in the coming weeks, with the RIP Callahan Memorial Singles Open serving as the first elimination round of the season-long competition.
Competitors faced the demanding 2025 PBA Ballard pattern. At just 36 feet in length, the pattern offered tremendous scoring potential for those who matched up correctly, but the combination of urethane traffic, lane topography, and transition created equally significant scoring challenges for those who failed to make the proper adjustments. As a result, the event produced both exceptionally high scores and surprisingly low games throughout the weekend.
Leading the way was Jalen Scott-Jones, who dominated qualifying with a five-game total of 1,292, more than 100 pins ahead of the next closest competitor. His performance included a perfect 300 game to open qualifying. Kieran Carney also found perfection during qualifying, firing a 300 game in game three on his way to a strong qualifying effort.
When qualifying concluded, 32 bowlers advanced to Sunday's traditional single-elimination match play bracket, each looking to capture the Better Bowling Concepts title.

While Buck continued advancing through the bracket, Tyler Hurne assembled an impressive run of his own. Hurne defeated Stephen Dale Jr., Corey Major, Jay Johnson, and Randy Hagemoser to earn his spot in the championship match.
The result was a title match featuring two bowlers who had successfully navigated one of the most demanding lane conditions of the season.
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH RECAP
Heading into the championship match, it was clear that scoring on the featured pair would be at a premium. The challenging lane conditions demanded exceptional shot-making and precise execution—qualities that both Sean Buck and Tyler Hurne have demonstrated throughout their careers.
Buck entered the match seeking his second NEBA title, while Hurne was looking to capture career title number three.
The opening frames mirrored one another, as both competitors started with strikes in the first frame before each suffered an open frame and responded with a strike in the third. The first signs of separation came in the fourth frame when Buck connected for a double, while Hurne was unable to capitalize, leaving splits in both the fourth and fifth frames.
Buck took full advantage of the opportunity, adding strikes in the fifth and sixth frames to steadily widen the gap heading into the second half of the match.
Hurne found a spark in the sixth frame after making an adjustment that produced a strike, and he followed it with another strike in the seventh to remind Buck that the match was far from over. However, Buck remained unfazed. Continuing to control the pocket and execute quality shots, he maintained constant pressure while forcing Hurne to keep pace.
Any hopes of a comeback became increasingly difficult when Hurne encountered another split in the eighth frame, effectively placing the match firmly in Buck's hands. With the opportunity in front of him, Buck delivered like a champion. He stepped up in the ninth and tenth frames, filling frames and striking when it mattered most to close out a commanding 213-156 victory.
With the win, Sean Buck captured his second career NEBA title, adding another accomplishment to an already impressive competitive resume. The victory also earned him the tournament's top prize and a coveted entry into the Tournament of Champions.
