Tournament Recap & Jamyson Mathieu’s Road to Victory
A record field of 218 entries packed Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston, RI, on October 11–12, 2025, for the Lang’s 65th Anniversary Open Singles presented by DJBT and Northeast Megabucks. Competitors faced the 46’ Lithium Mod Atlas Pro pattern (28.135 mL, 5.46:1 ratio) — a challenging condition that demanded versatility with emphasis on speed and rotation to get the balls to go through the pins correctly with the least chance for penalty.

High qualifier Stephen M. Major set the bar early with a 1273 series, but it was Jamyson Mathieu who outlasted the field in grueling match play to capture his third career NEBA title, capping off an incredible weekend of bowling at one of NEBA’s most historic venues.

Championship Match Recap – Mathieu vs. Perry

Our competitors journey to the championship match was filled with current and future Hall-of-Fame bowlers with names such as Alex Aguiar, Jon Van Hees, Jon Wilber, Dennis Bissonnette, Aaron Major and John Kirker meeting their ends against Perry and Mathieu. Tyler Perry, looking to add a 4th title to his résumé, averaged just over 245 in his bracket to this point while Jay Mathieu seeking title number 3 rode his squad leader momentum all the way to the championship match.

Perry would throw the beginning shots of our match leaving and converting a couple of makable spares while Jay filled the air with the sounds of flush strikes. Tyler, known for turning it up a notch and his animation on the lanes, responded with a pair of strikes, alerting Jay that he would not go quietly. Mathieu continued his pace throughout the first half of the match, stringing the first 5 strikes and seeming to be on cruise control. Perry matched in kind with strikes in frames 5 and 6. A few errant shots from Jamyson allowed for Tyler to close the early gap and keep the crowed on it’s toes as we neared the final frames. An open frame in the 8th from Jay put the ball in Perry’s hand to take the lead. Tyler would go on to make a 10-pin followed by a pressure packed strike in the 9th. Mathieu, unable to shut out Perry, would need the family clutch factor in order to change his fate. Massive hits in both the 9th frame and first shot in the 10th were enough to force Perry to need the first strike in the 10th to have any chance in earning the title. While Perry’s striking ability was elite on the day, a single pin would separate him from victory and allow Jamyson Mathieu to celebrate in the winners circle.

 Final Score:
 Jamyson Mathieu – 233
 Tyler Perry - 226

Mathieu’s win at Lang’s marks another milestone in his NEBA career and adds title number 3 to what is sure to be a long list — and comes at one of the most celebrated events on the schedule, honoring Lang’s Bowlarama’s 65 years of service to the bowling community.
