OPPY & HAGEMOSER CAPTURE TURBO GRIPS OVER/UNDER DOUBLES TITLE

Turbo Grips Over/Under 50 Doubles Presented by Island Bowling Supply

Bowlero Cranston – Cranston, RI – June 13, 2026

Event #1063

48 Teams | 12 Match Play Finalists | Pattern: USBC Junior Gold Qualifying (U15B/U18B/U20) – 35', 26.05 mL, 2.43:1 (L) / 3.1:1 (R)

The New England Bowlers Association returned to Bowlero Cranston for Event #1063, the Turbo Grips Over/Under 50 Doubles Presented by Island Bowling Supply.

A total of 48 teams took to the lanes competing for a share of the prize fund while also battling for valuable Vincent Hall Memorial Cup Series positioning. This event served as the seventh qualifying event of the season, with the top two teams earning advancement into the Vincent Hall Memorial Cup Series Eliminator Finals later this year.

Competitors faced the USBC Junior Gold Qualifying pattern used for the U15 Boys, U18 Boys, and U20 divisions. The 35-foot pattern featured a mix of high and low scoring throughout the day. While bowlers could find success using urethane and lower-flaring reactive equipment, the challenge came from managing the differences pair-to-pair as transition developed.

Teams that adjusted quickly continued to score, while those who failed to stay ahead of the changing conditions found themselves slipping down the standings.

When qualifying concluded, Christopher Baker and Jalen Scott-Jones led the field with an impressive 2,289 team total, earning High Qualifier honors and the top seed heading into match play.

At the conclusion of the baker match play finals, it was Brian Oppy and Colby Hagemoser standing atop the leaderboard as champions.

The victory marked the first career NEBA title for Brian Oppy and the third career title for Colby Hagemoser.

MATCH PLAY BREAKDOWN

The top 12 teams advanced into the baker match play finals, utilizing a two-game total pinfall baker format with the top four teams receiving a one-round BYE, including eventual champions Hagemoser and Oppy. Teams alternated frames throughout each game, making communication, execution, and momentum critical throughout the bracket.

Brian Oppy & Colby Hagemoser's Road to the Championship

Quarterfinals
def. Randy Hagemoser / Michael Reale, 363-328

Semifinals
def. Max Macklin / Chris Forry, 453-327

Championship Match
def. Mark Bouchard / Matthew Brockett, 446-415

The championship run featured several notable storylines. Oppy and Hagemoser opened match play by defeating the defending champions, Randy Hagemoser and Michael Reale. Randy, Colby's uncle, was looking to defend the title he captured alongside Reale one season ago, but the younger Hagemoser helped put an end to that bid in the opening round.

Oppy and Hagemoser then delivered one of the strongest performances of the day in the semifinals, posting a massive 453 total to advance to the championship match.

Waiting for them was the team of Mark Bouchard and Matthew Brockett, who advanced through the top half of the bracket after defeating Brandon Whitney and Tom Solimine before knocking off top-seeded Baker and Scott-Jones in the semifinals.

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH RECAP

This championship match featured two teams looking to make their own mark in NEBA history. Mark Brockett and Matt Bouchard entered the finals seeking redemption after a previous runner-up finish together in this event. A victory would have earned each bowler their fourth career NEBA title.

Across the settee area, Brian Oppy was looking to capture his first career title, while Colby Hagemoser had an opportunity to add an impressive third championship to his résumé.

The opening shots of Game One showed both teams quickly finding their strike lines. Hagemoser and Oppy came out firing, stringing together the first five strikes of the match. Brockett and Bouchard were the first team to blink, with a pair of high hits breaking up potential strings and allowing their opponents to gain an early advantage.

Hagemoser and Oppy maintained control throughout the opening game, steadily extending their lead and carrying a 33-pin advantage into Game Two.

For the second game, both teams switched lanes and altered their positions in the lineup. Facing a significant deficit, Brockett and Bouchard responded with an opening triple to begin their comeback attempt. Oppy, meanwhile, drifted high on his first two shots before making the necessary adjustment, helping Hagemoser and Oppy protect their lead.

As the match moved into the back half of the final game, neither team was able to build much momentum. Stubborn single-pin spares repeatedly halted potential strike strings and kept the scoring pace in check. Still needing to erase the deficit, Brockett's bid for a late rally came to an end when he left a 2-8-10 split, effectively sealing the outcome and allowing Hagemoser and Oppy to calmly march toward the winner's circle.

With only formalities remaining, Hagemoser stepped up in the tenth frame and laced a strike to officially secure the championship. When the final pin fell, Hagemoser and Oppy claimed the title by a score of 446-415, giving Oppy his first NEBA championship and Hagemoser the third title of his career.
